Seongnam city is located in the center of Korea in the Gyeonggi province.
The city is located 26km southeast of Seoul, and close to the Han River.
Due to the geographical advantage of the city’s location near Seoul, the city offers convenient transportation. The city is the center of logistics with diverse development potential as well as the place of highly qualified human resources on standby. The excellent residential area and numerous culture centers also add to the city’s attractiveness. Seongnam city ranks as the most satisfactory place to live in.
As one can see, Seongnam is one of the core cities in the capital area, and is within a 25minute-drive from downtown Seoul. It has a population of 960,000 and has various international exchanges relationships with 6 cities in 6 different countries.
As for the characteristics of the city, the city has high-tech information industry complexes such as Pangyo Techno Valley, Yatap Valley and Uirye Medi-Bio Valley and is the hub of Korea’s high tech industries and research. Second, the city has made a lot of efforts to preserve our ecology and focuses on being an environmentally friendly city where nature and human-beings coexist in harmony. Third, it is a city of culture and art where various performances and exhibitions are shown all year round.
The following are a brief description of a few main events among the numerous festivals and exhibitions held in the Seongnam City.
The Tancheon Festival is held in October in Tancheon, a historical river or site, by inviting participants from 20 countries around the world. Dancers from many countries participate in the Seongnam International Dance Festival where modern and traditional dances meet.
Seongnam Folk Craft Festival aims to show and pass down the knowledge to create traditional folk craft to the next generation. All of them are must see events of our city.
There are also a few historical sites where tourists must visit.
Our city has many historical sites, Bongguk Temple, a buddhist temple which was built in the latter half of the Joseon Dynasty, Namhansanseong, which was built in 672 AD is a fortress wall where you can feel the spirit, the culture, and the history of Korea.
We also have an engraved image of Buddha in Manggyeongam Temple where kings of the Joseon Dynasty visited to wish peace for the common people in the early 18th century. Cheongye Mountain is also adored by many mountain climbers who love its clean water and fresh air.
Yuldong Park, the Seongnam’s most recognized park, enables families to enjoy outdoor activities such as bungee jumping against the backdrop of a beautiful lake and a wetland. Yuldong Park also has the Book Theme Park, which was built to promote readings, host exhibitions, performances, and an international book art fair every year. In addition to the above, one can appreciate the scenic beauty in Central Park every season, and it is frequently used as a set to produce films and dramas.
The city is also proud of Seohyeon and Jeongja Café Streets where people can enjoy food, cultural activities, exotic cafes, shopping, and the dynamic night atmosphere of the streets. Also, visit the Moran Folk Market where you can experience many different traditions of Korea.
Seongnam City is one of the best tourist cities in Korea as it offers a beautiful urban environment, an abundance of tourist attractions, a convenient subway system connecting Seoul to surrounding cities, and a well-connected traffic system, which will make each and every tourist’s life very easy.
Above all, as a new town in the metropolitan area, Seongnam is growing as the cradle of IT & high tech industries with its techno and business parks. Seongnam has great conditions, ideal for many industries.
