The environmental and cultural significance of Tancheon Stream is something especially prominent compared with that of other streams in the Korean peninsula.
The Seongnam Tancheon Festival has shown various genres and types of cultural performances, including the percussion music performances in 2006,
the world-renowned acrobatic and street performances and those of M-pack-a popular a cappella group from the U.S. in 2007. In the 2008 festival,
II Corso from Germany performed for the first time in Korea while the performance 'Break Out' prenetrated and had a bout of play with its audience.
In 2008, the Tancheon Festival changed its opening date from a day in August to October 8.
This was in part to commemorate the Seongnam Citizens' Day.v
With the festival changing its opening period from summer to fall,
when weather conditions are more favorable, more hands-on cultural programs and
more citizens' participation were given.
Meanwhile, auxiliary events for environmental experience and a walking festival were held along the embankment of Tancheon Stream.
